HolidayLink ("we", "us", "our") connects students across Africa during school holidays through social feeds, events, study papers, quizzes, chat, and a marketplace. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use our website and app, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By creating an account or using HolidayLink, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
Account information: name, email address, phone number, school, and password (stored securely via Firebase Authentication) when you sign up.
Profile & activity content: posts, comments, messages, voice notes, quiz results, event registrations, and uploaded study papers you choose to share.
Chat & calls: messages and voice call metadata sent through our chat feature (room.html), used to deliver the service, including delivery/read status.
Device & session data: device identifiers, login sessions, and approximate device information, used for account security and to let you manage active sessions and two-factor confirmations.
Store & transaction data: items purchased, order details, and payment status when you use the store or make a mobile money payment.
Technical data: IP address, browser type, and usage patterns collected automatically to keep the service secure and reliable.
When you make a purchase or payment through MTN or Airtel Mobile Money, your phone number and transaction details are shared with our payment processing partner to complete the transaction. We do not store your mobile money PIN. Transaction records are kept for accounting, support, and fraud-prevention purposes.
Your data is stored using Firebase (Google Cloud infrastructure) with security rules restricting access to your own data and, where relevant, data you've chosen to share. We use industry-standard measures — including authentication safeguards and session monitoring — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data using commercially reasonable safeguards.
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you request deletion, we remove or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain records (e.g., transaction records) for legal or accounting purposes.
HolidayLink is built for students and may be used by users under 18 with the involvement of a parent, guardian, or school, as appropriate. We do not knowingly collect more information than necessary to provide the service. If you believe a child has provided us with information beyond what is appropriate, please contact us so we can address it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when changes are made, and significant changes may also be announced within the app.
